There is a striking lack of accurate data on Armed Forces children and young people in Scotland. There are no nationally published statistics on children and young people living in Armed Forces families. We do not know how many Armed Forces children and young people are living in Scotland, their geographical locations, or how they fare in terms of their educational outcomes and wider health and wellbeing.
This lack of data is challenging for those working to support children and young people in Armed Forces families. It hinders our ability to understand and address the issues affecting them, making it difficult to effectively identify and meet their needs.
We would like to see:
- Collection and publication of national data on Armed Forces children and young people in Scotland including numbers, geographical location, and educational, health and wellbeing outcomes. The data should include, and distinguish between, Veteran, Serving and Reservist families.
